About Murray Hill Institute
Murray Hill Institute was a women-led organization committed to caring for and empowering women in the workplace. The Institute had its inception in 2000 and ran programs for 22 years. The underlying mission of the Institute centered on helping women integrate ethical values into their daily work and giving them support in achieving an effective and balanced life that fit each person’s individual circumstances.
Programming began with an inaugural conference in October 2000, “Women Transforming Culture.” This conference explored the impact that the evolution of women’s roles has had on society, and set into motion over two decades of conferences, seminars, and discussion forums covering a wide range of topics related to professional life. MHI events featured prominent speakers such as Oscar de la Renta, Helen Alvaré, Patricia Herrera Lansing, and Teri Agins.
The year 2015 saw the first of five Fashion Intelligence Symposiums, in collaboration with the Fashion Institute of Technology Center for Continuing and Professional Studies and Complutense University-Villanueva, Madrid. Other standout events and partnerships included two conferences at the IESE Business School, a concert at Bruno Walter Library at Lincoln Center in collaboration with Mujeres en la Música and the New York Philharmonic Very Young Composers Program, and a seminar in collaboration with the Global Brands Group, held at their headquarters in the Empire State Building.
In addition to hosting public events, MHI maintained an intensive mentoring program. Younger professionals were paired with successful professional women who helped them navigate the early stages of their careers.
In the spring of 2020, the MHI team worked tirelessly to convert their many programs to remote attendance, allowing them to continue serving women without interruption, to extend services to those who were previously out of reach, and to host an even more diverse range of speakers at their events. The programs sponsored by the Institute were inspired by the thought and work of Saint Josemaría Escrivá, founder of Opus Dei, and the social teachings of the Catholic Church.
